Do I have to complete all the courses to become certified?
|
No. If you can pass the exam you will be certified. In fact, you can
attempt the exam without taking any of the courses. In this case the cost
of the exam is $650. Of course, the exam is rigorous.

Is there a time limit for taking the courses?
|
No. The courses can be taken over any period of time. However, we do
update the courses regularly as new information becomes available. This
is especially true of Putting Research into Practice. We recommend that
you take this course each year to keep up-to-date on new findings in the
usability field.

Do I have to take the courses in any order?
|
No. However, the recommended sequence for the courses is:
- User-Centered Analysis and Conceptual Design
- The Science and Art of Effective Web and Application Design
- Practical Usability Testing
- Putting Research into Practice

Is there a time limit for taking the exam?
|
Yes. There is a two and a half hour time limit for taking the certification
exam.

Are there study guides available to prepare for the test?
|

| What if I fail the exam? |
If you fail, you can retake the exam within six months at no cost.

How is HFI’s certification program perceived by the industry?
|
HFI is recognized as the world’s leading full-service usability
firm. Our instructors are up-to-date with the latest research, and have
real-world experience in the field.

What is the difference between HFI’s certification program and
the CPE designation?
|
The CPE/CHFP program is aimed at full time usability engineering professionals.
These people must have advanced degrees and at least four years of professional
experience in the field. They are the certified physicians of the field.
HFI’s Certified Usability Analyst program is aimed at designers
and developers who want solid training for practical work in user-centered
design. These are the certified paramedics of the field.

I live in a country where HFI does not offer the seminars. Can I take
the courses online?
|
Not at present. However we are willing to present courses in any location
if a company wishes us to teach onsite and covers travel expenses.
